Angie Stone est née à Columbia, en Caroline du Sud, où elle commence à chanter du gospel à l'église.
Dans les années 1980, Angie est connue sous le pseudonyme d'Angie B en tant que rappeuse au sein du groupe féminin de hip-hop/funk The Sequence. Leur single Funk You Up connait un grand succès, atteignant la 15e place des charts black américains.
Angie chantera une reprise de ce tube sur Love of My Life Worldwide en 2003, extrait de l'album Worldwide Underground d'Erykah Badu.
Ensuite, elle travaille avec le groupe d'electro-funk Mantronix et refait surface dans les années 1990 en tant que membre du trio RnB Vertical Hold2, qui sort le populaire single Seems You're Much Too Busy ainsi que deux albums.
En 1992 , elle participera à l'album de Vanessa Paradis en qualité de choriste "Guest" . En 1996, elle travaille avec Gerry DeVaux, le cousin de Lenny Kravitz et ensemble avec Charlie Mole, ils forment Devox. Elle chante également des chœurs sur 5, le cinquième album de Lenny Kravitz, publié en 1998. Elle participe aussi aux crédits d'écriture des deux premiers albums du chanteur D'Angelo, Brown Sugar (1995) et Voodoo (2000), et l'accompagne lors de ses concerts en tant que choriste. Sa liaison amoureuse avec le chanteur donne naissance à un fils, Michael Jr.

Angie Stone was born in Columbia, South Carolina, where she began singing gospel in church.
In the 1980s, Angie became known as Angie B as a rapper in girl hip-hop/funk group The Sequence. Their single Funk You Up was a great success, reaching number 15 on the American black charts.
Angie will sing a cover of this hit on Love of My Life Worldwide in 2003, taken from the album Worldwide Underground by Erykah Badu.
She then worked with the electro-funk group Mantronix and resurfaced in the 1990s as a member of the RnB trio Vertical Hold2, which released the popular single Seems You're Much Too Busy as well as two albums.
In 1992, she will participate in Vanessa Paradis' album as a backing vocalist "Guest". In 1996 she worked with Gerry DeVaux, cousin of Lenny Kravitz and together with Charlie Mole they formed Devox.
